I need to complain or escalate a problem
Choose a route based on the issue and keep a clear record.
Source snapshot: 5 September 2026. Check current requirements with the issuing authority.
Understand the issue
A bank service complaint, developer dispute, crime and professional-conduct complaint do not necessarily go to the same authority. Start by identifying the issue rather than sending the same message everywhere.
Prepare your next steps
Define the outcome you want
State the facts, the decision or service you dispute and the remedy you are requesting.
Use the institution’s official complaint route
Keep the reference, submission date and response. Do not rely only on a personal WhatsApp conversation.
Identify the correct escalation body
Check the current regulator, ombudsman, RERA, police or professional-body process that fits the issue.
Check deadlines and prerequisites
Read the complaint rules; do not assume an informal complaint suspends a legal limitation period.
Seek advice if rights are at risk
Get prompt legal help where a court deadline, loss of property or other serious consequence is possible.
Documents to prepare
- Concise complaint and desired remedy
- Evidence and earlier correspondence
- Complaint references and responses
- Timeline of relevant dates
Questions for your adviser
- Which authority can grant the remedy I seek?
- What prior complaint or waiting period is required?
- Is a separate legal deadline running?
Watch for
A grievance portal acknowledgement is not proof that a legal claim has been filed or a deadline protected.
Who can help
The institution’s grievance team or relevant authority; a lawyer where legal rights or time limits are involved.
